Research field: computational vision, machine learning, large-scale data analytics, multi-modal data fusion, biologically inspired signal/image processing modeling, multi-modal biometrics and AI, 3D imaging sensors, information processing, security, biomedical and health informatics.

Sos S. Agaian (Fellow, IEEE) is currently a Distinguished Professor with the College of Staten Island (CSI), The City University of New York. He has authored more than 750 technical articles and ten books in these areas. He is a fellow of SPIE, IS&T, AAAS, and AAIA. He also serves as a Foreign Member for the Armenian National Academy. He received the Distinguished Research Award from The University of Texas at San Antonio. He was a recipient of the Innovator of the Year Award, in 2014, and the Tech Flash Titans-Top Researcher Award (San Antonio Business Journal). He is an Editorial Board Member of Pattern Recognition and Image Analysis and an Associate Editor of several journals, including the IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, the IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man and Cybernetics, Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering (Hindawi Publishing Corporation), International Journal of Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (Hindawi Publishing Corporation), and Journal of Electronic Imaging (IS&T and SPIE).

Research field: modelling and characterization of multi-section semiconductor lasers for coherent systems, quantum well lasers, optical fiber amplifiers and lasers, optical sensors, soliton propagation, polarization and nonlinear effects in optical fibers.

Mário F. S. Ferreira is a Professor at the Physics Department of Aveiro University, Portugal. Between 1990 and 1991 he was at the University of Essex, UK, performing experimental work on external cavity semiconductor lasers and nonlinear optical fiber amplifiers. His research interests have been concerned with the modelling and characterization of multi-section semiconductor lasers for coherent systems, quantum well lasers, optical fiber amplifiers and lasers, optical sensors, soliton propagation, polarization and nonlinear effects in optical fibers. He has been the leader of the Optics and Optoelectronics Group of the I3N – Institute of Nanostructures, Nanomodelling and Nanofabrication. He has written about 400 scientific journal and conference publications, and several books He is a Fellow and a Travelling Lecturer of both OPTICA (Optical Society of America) and SPIE - The International Society for Optics and Photonics, and a Member of IEEE. He served in various committees of OSA/OPTICA and of SPIE, as well as in the organizing and scientific committees of various international conferences. Actually, he serves also as an Associate Editor or as an Advisor Board Member of several international journals in the area of optics and photonics.
